Community Outreach and Engagement

Summary

The Community Engagement Team (CET) identifies and promotes existing community assets along transit-way corridors and ensures that the communities along those corridors are involved in the planning process.

Activities encourage new approaches to community engagement that promote equity and ongoing system change in decision making on publicly funded projects related to transitway and land use development such as:

  • Affordable housing
  • Access to jobs
  • Economic development
  • Entrepreneurial opportunities for underrepresented communities

The CET is responsible for recommending grants to community groups that support innovative and effective placed-based initiatives that engage and involve underrepresented communities (low-income, communities of color, immigrant communities, persons with disabilities) in participation, decision-making and leadership roles related to transit corridor planning and implementation.

The Corridors of Opportunity Policy Board reviewed the CET's first two rounds of grant recommendations and approved two rounds of grantees in October 2011 and September 2012. Round 1 and Round 2 grantees are summarized by corridor in the two tables at the bottom of the page. More detailed descriptions are available here.
